Woah! Skoda Octavia RS 230's Price Is As Mind-Numbing As Its Performance

If you have been yearning for a budget performance sedan, your wait will bear fruit tomorrow. Skoda is bringing back the RS nameplate to India, in the form of a monster developing 230PS/350Nm.

The great news is that the new Skoda Octavia RS has been priced at Rs 25.12 lakh, ex-showroom. To be exact, it costs Rs 25,12,750 including a mandatory accessories pack. The on-road price in Mumbai will be Rs 29.79 lakh, which includes Rs 67,800 for the Skoda Shield warranty. To put this into perspective, the non-RS Octavia is priced between Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 22.90 lakh, ex-showroom. 

The all-new Octavia RS was first unveiled back in December 2016 and has generated quite a buzz among those who remember the last time Skoda offered a mind-bending fast car in India. 

There are many enthusiasts in India who swear by the cars which bear the RS badge, the last one of which was the Laura six years ago. The Octavia has been given a comprehensive update in India and the RS gets cosmetic and mechanical updates over the same.

The explosive power of the Octavia RS is courtesy 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged motor developing 230PS of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. All this is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission. The most powerful 'standard' petrol-powered Octavia develops 180PS/250Nm while the diesel-powered Octavia develops 140PS/320Nm.

With power similar to mid-sized luxury cars, the Octavia RS can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 6.8 seconds and go on to hit a top speed electronically limited to 250kmph. Skoda has lowered the RS 230 by 15mm as compared to the standard car, the front axle also gets a limited-slip differential which activates when lateral acceleration increases beyond 0.15g and the car also uses torque vectoring, by way of braking the inner wheel, for better handling and traction.

The Octavia RS has the show to match the go. Paint options include Red, Blue, White and Steel Grey. A body kit adds new bumpers, a new grille with the legendary 'vRS' badge, boot-mounted spoiler, rear diffuser and dual exhausts. The wheels are menacing looking 17-inch units.

Inside, the changes include an all-black interior theme, Alcantara leather, 'vRS' badges on the seats and gear knob.
