After the Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix was postponed due to political unrest, Japan was next to follow in MotoGP. And then, WRC joins the gang as the Jordan Rally gets a late start. WRC Jordan Rally was officially dated to start on 14th April but was postponed by a day

Hosting a rally is a very intricate task especially when it is hosted in one of the middle-eastern countries during the on-going political unrest, but that was just one of the reasons due to which the Jordan Rally had a delayed flag off.

Although there hasn’t been any form of upheaval in Jordan, the problem lay in transporting the vehicles to the destination. Teams were warned and choose not to take the Suez Cana route due to the unrest in Egypt. To complicate matters to another level they could not transport from Syria in the red of the pre-democracy protests. Organisers had but one option left, to ship the cars from Italy to Israel and they kept their fingers crossed hoping not to encounter any obstacles on the way. But, crossed fingers also didn’t seem to work for them. More complications.

After endless circumstances leading to delays, the WRC Jordan Rally is finally on the way

Stormy weather in Haifa (Israel’s northern port) made it unsafe for the ships to dock in the city and they were left stranded just a kilometer off the port. You would have thought that finally the ships would anchor and bring an end to the mess, but no! Though the conditions gave way, one of the engines on the ship refused to start. Tug-boats were used to bring the ship on docks. The shipment got further delayed in customs and it took 14hours to finally-finally make it to the Jordanian coast of the Dead Sea.

The rally which was to begin yesterday started today, as stressful as the incident may have been for the organizers, the whole incident sounds extremely funny, just like a situation when luck is so against you for long that you start finding humour in bad-luck.
