While the technical prowess of the 149.8 cc Liquid-cooled 4-stroke remains quite the same (17 PS @ 8,500 RPM & 15 Nm of torque @ 7,500 RPM) the build characteristics on the new R15 receive very sporty upgrades like an all new split seat LED Tail Light, an aluminum Swingarm, and very importantly a wider rear wheel now has a section of 130mm (130/70-R17).The front tyre configuration still stands at 90/80-17.
While the wider rear tyres may hamper the bike’s nimble handling characteristics, it was a demand of the market which has shown a preference for aesthetics, and Yamaha has heard the call of this larger group of buyers. The inclusion of the aluminium swingarm should provide for a more rigid feedback from the rear though, apart from giving the bike another USP in a segment which has preferred steel-section swingarms.
Priced at Rs 1.07 Lakhs( ex-showroom Delhi), the Yamaha R15 is available in three new shades, namely Racing Blue, Midnight Black and Sunset Red.Probably the only motorcycle in India that has spent as much time on city roads as it has on the race tracks down south, the Yamaha R15 most definitely brought to its discerning customers a very new and exciting dimension to biking.
Now, with the brand well-established, and a continuously growing market for the vehicle, Yamaha has worked on some of the existing model’s key areas, which as per the Indian road conditions should make for a more appealing ride. The launch of this new face-lifted Yamaha R15 is sure to take the already slick and sexy low-slung machine a grade higher among its image-conscious buyers.
