Yamaha will ride in the new R3 tomorrow. The new Yamaha R3 has to be among the most anticipated two-wheeler launches of 2015. The 320cc motorcycle will be assembled in India and will be the new flagship offering for the Indian market from Yamaha. ZigWheels has learnt that bookings for the motorcycle has already commenced prior to its launch at Rs 30,000. Pricing of the Yamaha R3 will be critical and it is expected that the new bike will carry a sticker price of around Rs 3.0 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Confirmation of the above will be made tomorrow and if Yamaha pull this off then the new R3 will sit between the KTM RC390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300 which are its arch rivals.
Yamaha was testing the R25 and R3 for the Indian market; it seems Yamaha has preferred the higher displacement motorcycle which in our books is the correct decision. In terms of styling the Yamaha R3 is similar to its 250cc sibling with sharp and edgy lines that should appeal to the masses. Powering the Yamaha R3 is a 320cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor churning out 42PS at 10,750rpm and peak torque of 29.6Nm at 9,000rpm. The mill is mated to a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox. In terms of power output, the Yamaha R3 sits between its arch challengers the Kawasaki Ninja 300 (39PS) and the KTM RC 390 (43PS).Braking is done by disc brakes at front and rear while ABS has been most likely given a miss to keep pricing low in India.
