Yamaha has discontinued three models from its Indian line-up. The most popular among the three has been the Yamaha FZ-S streetbike which was once among its highest selling motorcycle in the Indian market. But in 2014 Yamaha launched the FZ-S Version 2.0 in the Indian market and it was inevitable that the carburetted version would be discontinued. The new Yamaha FZ-SI FI has been equipped with better features, new styling and of course the fuel injection system. Given that the FI version has been doing good sales, Yamaha has decided to suspend the Yamaha FZ-S while we must point out that the cheaper Yamaha FZ is still on sale.
The second motorcycle to be given the boot is the Yamaha Fazer which was basically the semi faired version of the streetbike. Similar to the FZ-S, even the Yamaha Fazer has an updated version with fuel injection on sale and for this purpose the Fazer has been discontinued. The third offering from Yamaha which has been discontinued is its first scooter offering for the Indian market – Yamaha Ray. Given that the new Yamaha Fascino has been welcomed warmly by buyers in the Indian market, the Japanese two-wheeler giant has decided to cease production of the Ray. Also Yamaha had recently showcased the new Ray ZR at the 2016 Auto Expo and the new scooter would be positioned and marketed as a replacement for the Ray. Currently the Yamaha India portfolio consists of the Ray Z, Alpha and Fascino.
