Yamaha has unveiled its seventh-generation TMAX 560 maxi-scooter ahead of EICMA 2019. Besides a new Euro-5 motor, the maxi-scooter gets tweaks across the board for more refinement, comfort and enjoyment. Yamaha claims that except for the fairing, the bodywork is completely new. Yamaha has made the body panels slimmer for the rider to easily place both feet on the ground. It gets integrated turn indicators and a new tail lamp unit. The new scooter also gets a variant called the TMAX Tech MAX.

The biggest update is in the powertrain department. Besides being Euro 5-compliant, the liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor sees a capacity bump from the previous 530cc to 560cc. This allows Yamaha engineers to extract up to 3.5 per cent more power and 6 per cent more torque. New power outputs are 47.5PS and a healthy 55.6Nm. The scooter gets safety aids in the form of riding modes and traction control. Yamaha has also worked on optimising the CVT automatic transmission for better power delivery. The gearing has been tweaked to give the scooter a more relaxed drive.
While suspension setup continues to be the same upside-down forks and monoshock, they have been tweaked for the added performance. At 218kg, the TMAX remains a heavy scooter.
The more premium TMAX Tech Max variant gets new connectivity tech that via an app allows the rider to locate his bike, remotely lock the scooter, set up a geofence zone and also access scooter information such as ride data and malfunction warnings. Besides the app, the new scooter variant gest premium looks in the form of Tech Kamo Grey paint job with gold forks and wheels. It also gets features such as cruise control, heated grips, electrically adjustable windscreen and an adjustable rear suspension.
Yamaha will be launching the new TMAX 560 worldwide in December this year. However given its high price and the limited market for large-capacity scooters in India, we don’t see the TMAX coming to our shores any time soon. The closest large-capacity scooter we have in India is the 276cc 22Kymco X-Town 300i.
