Zapp, a British electric two-wheeler startup, has now entered the German market with its i300 Carbon electric scooter, priced at the INR equivalent of an eye-watering Rs 5.50 lakh. But, what do you get for such an exuberant amount?
Off the bat, the Zapp i300 Carbon’s design is quite distinctive and can surely garner a lot of attention. The ‘Z-shaped’ frame is made out of aerospace-grade aluminium clad in composite material. The e-scooter gets LED illumination all around, integrated neatly in the minimalistic bodywork.
Sourcing its juice from a 0.72 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Zapp i300 Carbon offers a claimed range of 64 km. But the said figures can only be obtained with the use of both the battery packs that are placed under the footboard. The batteries are combined with an electric motor that makes 7.2 kW and 85Nm. Its top speed is limited to 96kmph.
Unlike its fancy bodywork, the i300 Carbon’s features list is quite sober. You get a fully digital screen with a few buttons below it. Other than off-the-line data, the Zapp i300 Carbon’s instrument console gets no connectivity provisions or any modern-day features.
It’s sprung on a USD fork and a rear monoshock, both offering preload adjustability. Meanwhile, the braking hardware consists of a front and rear disc brake setup with CBS. Zapp also offers an optional carbon fibre underseat storage tub. The scooter tips the scale at 92kg and rolls on 14-inch cast aluminium wheels wrapped in 120/70 front and 140/60 rear tyres.
While Zapp has no intentions of entering the Indian market, there are other electric two-wheelers in the country that might catch your fancy. For reference, the Ather 450X, TVS iQube, Revolt RV 400 and the upcoming Ola e-scooter and the Simple Energy Simple One.
