The thought of an electric off-road/ADV definitely excites us here at Zigwheels. For off-roading, you need as much torque as there is lower in the rev range as possible and electric motors deliver all of their torque instantaneously. Hence, bikes like the Zero DSR make total sense for Indian conditions. While there is no sign of the American brand venturing into the country, it has released a special-edition version of the bike.
Zero calls it the Anniversary DSR, as it was on April 22, 2006 that Zero began operations. 15 years on, this new special-edition model is meant to be inspired by nature. It arrives in five colours, of which three are named Snow, Mojave, Volcano. Colour aside, it is the same DSR electric adventure motorcycle.
Its 52kW, 157Nm pumping Z-Force 75-7R brushless motor helps the DSR achieve a top speed of 163kmph. The 14.4kWh battery pack is good to go for 262km in city riding conditions and it is possible to do 126km on the highway while maintaining a speed of around 110kmph. Impressive, right?
The DSR also packs some pretty impressive kit like fully-adjustable Showa suspension components, J-Juan braking hardware and Pirelli MT60 dual-purpose tyres.
This Anniversary DSR costs $15,495, which equates to Rs 11.62 lakh (without Indian customs and duties). And even though there isn’t any fixed number provided on how many of such DSRs will be created, Zero has stated that for every unit sold, $500 (Rs 37,600 approx) will be donated to the National Forest Foundation, USA, for the conservation efforts to promote responsible recreation.
