The Rapid Ultima will feature stickering on the bonnet, sides and on the roof. It will also carry the Ultima badging (though just stickers) over the Rapid name on the boot and on the rear doors. Otherwise, the Rapid Ultima will be identical to the regular car on the outside. Skoda hasn’t bothered tinkering with the bumpers, lights or even the alloy wheels.
Inside, the Rapid will get a two tone dashboard with a lighter hue for the dash top in addition to a chequered theme which will feature on plastics around the aircon vents as well as on the centre console. The Ultima will also get two-tone leather seats. Moreover, rear parking sensors with a reversing camera will also come as standard on the car. The Ultima will feature Bluetooth telephony and climate control as well.
The Rapid Ultima will be available with the 1.6-litre diesel engine to begin with and will come with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine develops 105PS of power and 250Nm of peak torque and comes with an ARAI certified fuel economy of 20.5kmpl. The rest of the underpinnings will continue unchanged as well and that isn’t a bad thing at all given the Rapid like its cousin, the Volkswagen Vento, is already one of the better handling and riding cars in its class.
The Skoda Rapid Ultima will hit showrooms in Febuary and will come at a slight premium over the Elegance trim. We expect the car to be priced a little over Rs 10 lakh, ex-showroom in Delhi.
