It costs almost as much as the home-grown Royal Enfield Interceptor 650

Zongshen, a Chinese bikemaker, has introduced the Cyclone RE3 250 cafe-racer bike explicitly targeted at youngsters.

The Cyclone RE3 250 is essentially a toned-down version of the Cyclone RE3 400. The design is inspired by its elder sibling, evident from the circular headlamp, tuck roll style seat, and the indented tank shape. The overall silhouette is similar to the more premium BMW R nineT, while the tail end seems to be inspired by the Triumph Street Twin, which is the best compliment we can give.

Complementing the premium appeal are its features, including full-LED illumination, alloy wheels, a short visor, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and Bosch’s dual-channel ABS.

The entry-level bike’s claimed top speed is 135kmph. It is powered by a 250cc twin-cylinder engine putting out 24.5PS and 18.9Nm. These are decent numbers, considering it generates 3.5PS more than the Honda CB350RS, India’s entry-level neo-retro offering.

Besides the smaller engine, the RE3 250 gets a more conventional telescopic fork and single disc brake up front (instead of the RE3 400’s USD and twin disc brake setup).

Zongshen has priced the RE3 250 at an equivalent of Rs 2.62 lakh, which is just about Rs 8,000 shy of the BS6 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 sold here. This makes it considerably overpriced for our country and isn’t exactly apt for the cost-sensitive Indian two-wheeler market.
