The Honda City has remained the go-to choice for car lovers who seek a premium C-segment sedan in the country. To cheer up car enthusiasts who probably couldn't find a date this valentine's day, Honda has decided to launch the new Honda City facelift on February 14. As this is a facelift and not a new generation, the sedan flaunts some cosmetic changes and equipment updates while being mechanically identical to the outgoing model. Here are the changes which the 2017 Honda City facelift gets as compared to the current sedan.
1. New Grille And Bumper
The 2017 Honda City gets a new grille which seems to be inspired from the Accord Hybrid. The bold chrome bar now becomes slimmer and moves to the top, making way for a honeycomb grille. These changes make the City look more aggressive and fresh.
2. Full LED Headlamps And DRLs
Probably the biggest and most attractive change in the sedan, the 2017 Honda City facelift gets all-LED headlamps with underlining DRLs. It not only looks super cool, but should also aid visibility during night drives. This feature has been introduced for the first time in the segment and only for the second time in a car priced below Rs 25 lakh. The outgoing model features regular halogen headlamps without DRLs. The Rapid facelift which was launched last year gets LED DRLs but not LED headlamps.
3. LED Fog Lamps
Another first in the segment, The Honda City Facelift gets LED foglamps. Together with the LED headlamps, the front of the Honda City looks striking!
4. LED Taillamps
The LED treatment of the 2017 Honda City does not end at the front. It also gets LED taillamps which have dual strip LED indicators. The shape of the cluster remains the same, but the LED lights make it look modern.
5. Boot-Lid Spoiler With Brake Light
The 2017 Honda City will come with a boot-lid spoiler with an integrated brake light. This aesthetic addition to the car makes it look sportier, gelling well with the tweaked bumper - giving it a refreshed look.
6. 16-Inch Diamond Cut Alloy Wheels
This time around, not only the design of the alloys has been changed, but the size has also been increased by an inch. The 16-inch alloy wheels look more premium than the older five-spoke units. Also, with the larger size, they make the car look sportier. Other than the new wheels, there is no distinctive change in the side profile.
7. 0-Inch Infotainment System
The current model of the Honda City features a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment unit in the top-end variant. With the facelift, the car will have a larger 7-inch infotainment screen. This will make it easier for the occupants to read the display and also will make the cabin look more premium. In addition, though unconfirmed, it should also feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.
8. Electric Sunroof With One-Touch Open/Close
The Honda City is the only car in the segment with an electric sunroof. With this update, the one-touch open/close feature will be added as well. This will enable the driver to open or close the sunroof by just a single click of a button. Also, there are chances that the sunroof will also get an anti-pinch feature, which will prevent it from closing when an obstacle is in its way.
9. 6 Airbags
The 2017 Honda City facelift will get enhanced safety features. Adding side and curtain airbags to the current dual-front setup, the total number of airbags in the Honda City will now be six. That’s four more than before. The added airbags will ensure that the passengers stay safe even in an event of a side impact.
10. Engine And Fuel Efficiency
The engines of the 2017 Honda City are going to be the same as the current model. There will be a 119PS/145Nm 1.5-litre petrol and a 100PS/200Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine. The diesel-manual combination now claims 25.6kmpl and the petrol-manual claims 17.4kmpl, both of which are 0.4kmpl lower than before. That said, the CVT automatic with the petrol still retains its older economy figure of 18kmpl.
These were the major changes in the upcoming 2017 Honda City facelift. The car will still continue to rival the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and the Skoda Rapid. Also, with these updates, expect the Honda City to be priced at a slight premium than the outgoing model. Stay tuned for a detailed first ride review that’s headed your way soon!
