2020 Hyundai Venue BS6 vs Rivals: Diesel Engine Specifications Compared

The specifications for the BS6-compliant Venue diesel have been revealed ahead of its launch, which is expected by March 31. The Venue BS6 diesel comes with a 1.5-litre CRDI diesel engine which is essentially a detuned version of the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta’s motor. But how does this new motor fare against the BS4 Venue and its competitors - the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300. Let’s find out:

The Hyundai Venue’s 1.5-litre CRDI diesel engine develops 100PS of power, which is equivalent to the EcoSport. While it’s more powerful than the BS4 Venue, it falls short when compared to the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300. Even the Venue 1.5’s torque output of 240Nm torque falls short when compared to the Nexon and XUV300. It’s torquier than the Ford EcoSport and Hyundai Venue BS4, though. 

Like its BS4 predecessor, the BS6 Venue is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. The EcoSport diesel, too, is limited to a manual transmission. If it’s a diesel automatic SUV that you’re looking for, your options are limited to the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300, both of which come with a 6-speed AMT. 

Hyundai is yet to reveal the official fuel efficiency figures for the BS6 Venue diesel. That said, we expect it to be similar to its BS4 version which returned 23.7kmpl. Meanwhile, the EcoSport trails behind with a figure of 21.7kmpl while the XUV300 has the lowest fuel efficiency in this test.

The BS6 Venue is priced from Rs 8.10 lakh, making it the most affordable BS6-compliant, sub-4 diesel SUVs. It also comes loaded with features in typical Hyundai fashion. But how does it perform on the road? Well, you’ll have to wait for our detailed road test review for the answer to that question.
