Maruti Suzuki has launched the BS6-compliant Vitara Brezza in the country with prices starting from Rs 7.34 lakh (ex-showroom). The major update here is the new 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine, replacing the tried and tested 1.3-litre DDIS motor.
Now that the Brezza has finally received a petrol heart, let’s see how it stands against its rivals - the Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV300.

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza comes with a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine developing 105PS of power and 138Nm of torque. These figures, though not bottom-rung, aren't class-leading in any sort either. In fact, the Brezza’s numbers are slightly better than the Hyundai Venue’s naturally aspirated unit, the least powerful car in this comparison. The EcoSport’s 3-cylinder Dragon engine develops class-leading power while the Mahindra’s turbo-petrol unit develops class-leading torque. The Tata Nexon and Hyundai Venue’s turbo-petrol unit develop similar power figures and don't disappoint.
Almost all the models in this test come with a manual transmission. However, all of them utilise different automatic units. The Brezza is offered with an old-school 4-speed torque converter while the Nexon utilises a simple 6-speed AMT. Meanwhile, the Ford EcoSport and Venue Turbo come with more sophisticated 6-speed torque converter and 7-speed DCT units respectively. You don’t have any automatic options for the Venue NA petrol and Mahindra XUV300.
In terms of fuel efficiency, the Vitara Brezza returns 17.03kmpl, 18.76kmpl respectively for the manual and automatic variants. In comparison, the Ford EcoSport manual and automatic variants have a 15.9kmpl and 14.7kmpl figure respectively. Mahindra, Hyundai and Tata haven’t revealed official fuel efficiency figures for their models.
