2024 Honda Amaze vs Hyundai Aura: Does The Aura Stand Against A Fully Upgraded Amaze?

Honda recently launched the 2024 Amaze, featuring a refreshed design along with upgrades in its feature set. It renews its rivalry with the Hyundai Aura, which has been due for an update for quite some time.

The Hyundai Aura significantly undercuts the new-gen Amaze with a starting price difference of around Rs 1.50 lakh. Even the top-spec variants of both models have a price gap of Rs 1.85 lakh. However, as mentioned earlier, the 2024 Amaze comes with thorough updates inside out, while the Aura is yet to receive a generational upgrade.

Let’s start with their dimensions first. 

The new-gen Amaze is 53 mm wider and has a 20 mm longer wheelbase than the Aura, although both models have similar lengths. The Aura, however, is taller than the Amaze by 20 mm.

Of the two, the 2024 Amaze immediately catches your attention with its updated styling, featuring a wider front grille, updated LED DRLs, and a thick chrome strip running across the bonnet. On the other hand, the Aura's front profile appears more curvy than the muscular one found on the Amaze. Although the bumper-mounted LED DRLs and two-part front grille help Aura stand apart from its hatchback counterpart.

In profile, both sedans look sporty, but the Aura's multi-spoke alloy wheel design appears more stylish than the Amaze's. Although both are equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels. The Aura's silhouette is further enhanced by a black-finished window line, while the Amaze's looks more plain yet sturdy and can be accessorized with chrome-finished garnishes.

At the rear, the Aura appears more aggressive, especially with its boot-mounted spoiler, while the Amaze's updated rear end bears a resemblance to that of the City. Both get a shark fin antenna, and LED taillights, with the ones on the Aura are connected by a chrome strip, adding a premium touch.

It’s in the features department where the new Amaze drastically outshines the Aura. You get a better headlight setup, an improved sound system, and a semi-digital instrument cluster. Additionally, it offers enhanced convenience with tech such as walk-away auto door lock, key fob-operated trunk opening, and remote engine start (CVT variants only). 

The updated Amaze also boasts a better safety package with ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and automatic high beam.

While both sedans are equipped with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, there is a disparity in their power output figures. The Amaze produces more power, while the Aura generates higher torque. Additionally, Hyundai offers the option to configure the Aura with a factory-fitted CNG kit, which is not available with the Amaze.

Which Sedan Should You Go For

At first, the price premium for the 2024 Amaze may seem steep, but it offers a well-rounded package with a refreshed design, a more modern interior, and segment-first safety tech. However, if you are on a tighter budget, the Aura may be a better choice. While it doesn't have the same well-equipped cabin as the Amaze, it provides all the essential features and necessities. It also offers a more economical CNG option, which can be retrofitted to the Amaze.
