2025 MG Astor vs Skoda Kushaq

Morris Garages released a model year update for its Astor, offering a handful of extra standard features in the lower- and mid-spec variants. While this seems to make the SUV more appealing, it is no longer available with the 140 PS 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine. Even so, it continues to compete with the various compact SUVs, including the Skoda Kushaq. And we are going to find out how it stacks up against the Kushaq – a now well-established SUV in one of the sought-after and competitive segments in India.

There is a noticeable difference in the starting prices of the 2025 Astor and Kushaq. However, the Kushaq offers more standard features in its base-spec variant, such as six airbags, which are available only in mid- and higher-spec variants of the Astor. On the flip side, there is a distinction of Rs 1.23 lakh between their top-spec variants with the Kushaq being costlier. In fact, this difference is mainly due to the unavailability of Astor’s 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine.

MG has discontinued the 140 PS 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine of the Astor as a part of the latest model year update and it has been left with only the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. The Kushaq, however, offers two distinct engine options 1-litre turbo-petrol unit and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol motor. The catch here is the latter does not come with a manual gearbox.

2025 MG Astor Vs Skoda Kushaq: Conclusion

Both compact SUVs are well equipped with features and safety equipment but the Astor comes with a few more features as mentioned earlier. The Kushaq also provides a couple of different features that the Astor misses out on. Plus, the Kushaq can be had in two engine options. Lastly, the Astor offers lower starting and ending prices compared to the Kushaq. On paper, they both are worth considering but the Kushaq has a modern appearance inside out. All in all, buyers highly recommended choosing the car based on the driving dynamics, space, and overall styling, which is mainly subjective.
