Hero Electric launched the next-generation Optima CX 2.0 a few months back with some updated features. On the other hand, its natural rival, the Ampere Magnus EX, has been in need of an update for a while now. So, let’s see how the two electric scooters fare against each other on paper.
Motor and Performance

Charging Time |
4.5 Hours |
6-7 Hours |
Both the scooters are very similar in terms of the motor and performance. The Hero Electric Optima CX 2.0 takes the edge by a very thin margin when it comes to peak power of the motor. The same goes for the Ampere Magnus EX regarding the battery capacity and claimed top speed, the latter of which is very marginally higher. But when it comes to the time taken to fully charge the battery, that’s where the Magnus EX really shows its age as it takes around two hours more than the Optima CX 2.0. That’s pretty significant because charging time is one of the most important factors affecting the daily usability of an e-scooter.

Wheel Size |

There’s nothing much to choose from between the two e-scooters, underpinnings-wise. But the bigger wheel size of the Optima CX 2.0 suggests it will be able to absorb the potholes and bumps on the road much better and provide a more stable riding experience. A very important ability for scooters on Indian roads.

Hero Electric Optima CX 2.0 |
Ampere Magnus EX |
Ground clearance |
165mm |

Kerb weight |

82kg |
On top of the bigger wheel size, the Optima CX 2.0 gets a better ground clearance, which adds to the e-scooter’s better useability on Indian roads. It means its belly is less likely to scrape on tall speed breakers or large undulations. But it has an 11kg heavier kerb weight than the Magnus EX, which means maneuverability could be comparatively more difficult in tight spaces or roads with heavy traffic.
Features
Both the e-scooters get a similar set of features but the Ampere Magnus EX misses out on a USB charger, which goes on to show its requirement of a much needed upgrade. Check out the list of features available on both the scooters below:

Price & Verdict

Ampere Magnux EX |
Rs 1.06 lakh |

So, after having a detailed look at both the e-scooters, it is very hard to separate them as they are neck to neck in terms of what they offer. But in our opinion, if you are looking for a simple electric scooter for city use, then the Hero Electric Optima CX 2.0 is better on paper. It gets a faster charging time, bigger wheels, higher ground clearance, and a USB charger for a very small premium of Rs 2,000 over the Ampere Magnus EX.
