Is Honda’s WR-V anything more than a Jazz with a raised ride height?

Update 16/3/17: Honda WR-V Launched At Rs 7.75 Lakh

Honda’s WR-V is looking to tap into some of the action that Maruti Suzuki’s Vitara Brezza has attracted in the compact SUV segment. While Honda has the Vezel or the HR-V, it is proving to be too expensive for India, and so Honda's first crack at the segment is in the form of the WR-V, a cross hatch. But, to succeed in India, the WR-V needs to be more than just a tougher looking Jazz. So, how different is the WR-V from the car it is based on - the Jazz? Here are five big differences!

1. Bigger Dimensions

Honda WR-V

The WR-V measures 3999mm in length, is 1734mm wide and stands 1601mm tall. That makes it 44mm longer, 40mm wider and 57mm higher compared to the Jazz. The wheelbase has gone up from 2530mm to 2555mm. Also, to cement its SUV look it gets 188mm of ground clearance.

2. New Face

While most manufacturers have chosen to keep the cross hatches look nearly identical to their standard siblings, Honda has redesigned the entire front end. The front fascia is a tad more upright compared to the Jazz, and also features daytime running lamps that the hatchback skips out on.

3. Sunroof

You read that right! A big addition to the Honda WRV's kitty is the sunroof. This will be offered in the top-spec VX variant and is likely to feature the same one-touch open and close functionality as the Honda City. Notably, other than the Nano (that gets a sunroof as an accessory) the WR-V is the only hatch to get the feature.

4. 7-inch Digipad Touchscreen

Honda WR-V

While the Jazz features a 5-inch AVN touchscreen unit, the WR-V is set to get Honda's new 7-inch Digipad. The system has been developed in-house at Honda India and features MirrorLink and HDMI support. It also connects to the internet through WiFi, and can be used to browse the web. Notably, there's no Android Auto or Apple CarPlay on offer.

5. Some Extra Features

Honda WR-V

While the WR-V will carry over the Jazz' touchscreen automatic climate control unit and steering-mounted controls, it will get a few unique features as well. These include a start-stop button, cruise control and 16-inch alloy wheels compared to the Jazz' 15 inchers. It also gets a front centre armrest that houses a USB port and a 12V charging socket!

We will be driving the Honda WRV soon and will get you the first drive impressions. Meanwhile, here's what we think about the Jazz
