The Maruti Dzire sub-compact sedan has received a generational update, while its segment rival, the Hyundai Aura, we believe, should get one soon. It’s safe to say that the Dzire, in its updated iteration, poses a strong challenge to the Aura and its other rivals likewise. The Hyundai sedan currently on sale is also a well-equipped car in its own right. Let’s see how well Hyundai’s offering answers the challenges set by the new Maruti.

Hyundai Aura |
|
Price (ex-showroom) |
Rs 6.79 lakh to Rs 10.14 lakh |
Rs 6.49 lakh to Rs 9.05 lakh |
As seen above, the Dzire costs more than the Aura. The new Dzire, offered in four broad variants, exceeds the Aura’s price by ₹30,000 for the entry-level variant and by around ₹1.09 lakh for the top-spec version. That said, let’s see what the Maruti sedan brings to the table to justify the premium.

The Dzire shares a similar length and wheelbase with the Aura, meaning you can expect comparable seating space inside both cars. The difference, however, lies in the width and height. The Dzire is significantly wider and slightly taller than its Hyundai rival. So, we’ll give the point to the Dzire in this case—though the Aura doesn’t disappoint either.

As seen in the table above, the Hyundai Aura offers an impressive feature set considering its price point. However, the new Dzire takes the lead in this comparison by including a few extra features over its rival.
The Dzire offers LED headlights and fog lights, a larger infotainment system, wireless connectivity for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an ARKAMYS-tuned 6-speaker sound system, 6 airbags as standard, connected car tech and a segment-first sunroof and 360-degree camera over the Hyundai Aura. On the other hand, the Aura stands out with a cooled glovebox which is missing in the Dzire as well as ambient lighting as standard across all trims, unlike the Dzire. Fair to say, the Dzire takes away a point here.

1.2-litre petrol with CNG / 5-MT |
69 PS / 95 Nm (with CNG) |
The new Dzire is powered by Maruti Swift’s Z-series 3-cylinder engine, which goes head-to-head with the Aura’s 4-cylinder engine. Both models offer optional factory-fitted CNG kits, with slightly reduced output. They also share similar transmission options.
In terms of performance, the power figures for both cars are nearly identical. However, the Aura holds a slight edge with its petrol-only engine, while the Dzire performs marginally better when equipped with the CNG kit. So, both fetch out a point in this.
This was undoubtedly a close and competitive comparison. While the new Dzire impresses with its fresh features and updates, it’s equally remarkable to see the Aura holding its ground against the challenges posed by the Maruti, despite being in its older generation. If Hyundai decides to roll out an update soon, Maruti should have a rather tougher rivalry to deal with.
For buyers looking for a sub-compact sedan priced below or around ₹10 lakh, both cars present strong options. If you’re willing to spend a little extra for segment-first perks, the Dzire is the one to go for. However, if you can compromise on those extras, the Aura still delivers excellent value and isn’t far behind.
