Honda has introduced the New Amaze 2024 in India with prices starting at Rs 8 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). In its third-gen avatar, this generational update has brought significant changes to the subcompact sedan in design, interior, features, and safety compared to the model it replaces. However, it carries over the same 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine but now claims to offer more mileage. But what is exactly new in the Amaze compared to the previous version? Let us find out.
Here is a comparison of length, width, height, and wheelbase of both the new and old Amaze.

Given it is a sub-four metre sedan, the length has been carried forward. The width of the new Amaze has grown to 1,733 mm from the previous 1,695 mm, while the height has marginally gone down to 1,500 mm from 1,501 mm. Whereas, the wheelbase remains unchanged. However, the boot space has been reduced by a whisker to 416 litres.
The new generation Amaze features a fresh look – a departure from the old conservative design. It borrows a lot of styling cues from the City and Elevate. While the old Amaze had a single projector light, the new model comes with dual projectors. Not to mention the grille, which looks similar to the ones on the Elevate, is larger than before as compared to the stubby chrome grille of the older model. The LED DRLs now feature a prominent eyebrow pattern, while the chrome stripe running across the edge of the bonnet is thicker.
Coming to the side profile, the new Amaze boasts a new set of 15-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels. The silhouette design between both the cars remains more or less similar between both the cars. On the other hand, the rear end of the new Amaze features new and wider taillights with design similar to ones found in the City. However, it has distinct design lighting elements. Then, the front and rear bumpers are sporty on the new model compared to the conventional bumpers on the old version.
The interior is a leap forward for the new Amaze, which takes inspiration from the Elevate, which is not a bad thing at all. Not only it appears upmarket and sleek but also comes equipped with the latest technology. Unlike the layout of the old Amaze, the new cabin features a minimalist approach with slimmer air-con controls, a new floating infotainment system, and a new steering wheel borrowed from the City.
While the old Amaze offered a 7-inch infotainment system, the new Amaze comes fitted with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There is also a new semi-digital driver’s display with a 7-inch screen, connected car tech with over 37 functions, a new wireless phone charger, new USB Type-C charging ports, and 6 speakers instead of 4 speakers. Auto headlamps, engine start/stop switch, paddle shifters, cruise control, and powered ORVMs with auto-fold function have been retained.
Safety equipment on the new Amaze now includes 6 airbags, brake assist, electronic stability programme (ESP), ABS with EBD, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, a rearview camera with parking sensors, and three point seat belts and reminders for all passengers.
The most stand out feature of the new Amaze is Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with adaptive cruise control, lead car departure notification, auto high-beam assist, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation system, and collision mitigation braking system. Not only is it first-in-segment but also it is the most affordable car to offer ADAS.
Here is a comparison between the old vs new Amaze’s power output, transmission, and mileage.

Powering the new Amaze is the same 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that powered the old model, producing the same power output figures 90 PS and 110 Nm. However, it now features an updated fuel injection ECU and tweaked manual gearbox. Speaking of which, the new Amaze also carries forward the 5-speed manual gearbox and a CVT automatic transmission.
In terms of mileage, Honda claims that the new model returns a fuel economy of 18.65 kmpl (MT) and 19.46 kmpl (CVT). On the other hand, the old Amaze’s fuel efficiency was rated at 18.6 kmpl (MT) and 18.3 kmpl (CVT). The mileage of CVT on the new Amaze has gone up marginally. We will be able to tell you about it when we carry out real-world fuel economy tests.
All in all, the new generation Honda Amaze seems a significant improvement over the previous generation model, offering a modern design, upmarket interior, and advanced features and safety, including ADAS. It renews its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor and Hyundai Aura.
