The 2021 Maruti Suzuki Celerio’s base-spec trim has been spotted ahead of the hatchback’s likely launch on November 10. As we can see, this entry-level trim has got all the essential features covered.
Let’s start with the exterior. This particular example doesn’t get fog lamps, and it relies on steel wheels instead of alloys. That said, Maruti has provided it with body-coloured bumpers and ORVMs. And while plastic wheel covers are lacking, they’re expected to be offered in the higher-spec trims.
Inside, the low-grade gear knob (without any glossy or leather finish) and the lack of an infotainment system with steering-mounted audio controls makes it evident that this example is the base-spec trim. That said, those silver touches on the AC vents and gear knob surround do help improve the cabin experience.
When it comes to features, the base-spec Celerio has got all bases covered. You get manual air-conditioning, power steering, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. Higher-spec variants should get a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, and rear washer and wiper.
The new Celero will likely be based on Maruti’s HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Wagon R. Alongside the 68PS 1-litre petrol engine, the hatch may get the larger 83PS 1.2-litre petrol engine as well. Both will likely get a 5-speed manual and an optional 5-speed AMT. A CNG option could also be offered going forward.
The Celerio will likely be priced from Rs 5 lakh, pitting it against the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago, and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.
