Despite looking bigger in size, the front looks similar to the current model, while the rear seems more upright with squarish tail lamps.
Should get more features and retain bits like the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, multi-info display, and front power windows.
Should retain the current 0.8-litre petrol and could also get a 1-litre petrol offering with an AMT gearbox option.
Likely to be priced from Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
Maruti Suzuki has a slew of upcoming offerings, with the first entry being the next-gen Celerio that is expected to launch this month. The other model is the next iteration of the Alto which has now been spotted testing again, only this time we’ve got a better angle at what’s new.
In the latest images, we got a look at the front which sports a similarly large air dam like the current model, with the headlights looking updated. At the rear the tailgate looks a little more pronounced, and seems to feature square taillights. While the rest of the hatchback is still under heavy camouflage, we can tell the overall silhouette looks bigger, likely due to the new Alto possibly shifting to the Heartect platform, which also underpins the WagonR. The missing wheel covers indicate that it could be a lower-spec trim.
We’re yet to have a look at the interior, but we think it will retain bits such as the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, front power windows, air conditioner, keyless entry, multi-info display, and add more equipment.
Under the hood, it’ll likely retain the current model’s 0.8-litre petrol engine (making 48PS/69Nm, and 41PS/60Nm in CNG) and could add a more powerful 1-litre petrol option. The 5-speed manual gearbox will likely carry over, with an AMT transmission option probably being introduced.
Maruti Suzuki will launch the new Alto in India in 2022, at prices starting from Rs 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It will rekindle its rivalry with the Datsun redi-GO and Renault Kwid.
