  • ADAS suite should include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep/departure assist, and blind spot detection.
  • Interior design is similar to the Astor, its petrol counterpart.
  • Battery pack likely to be updated to a larger 51kWh pack unit.

MG Motor India’s first launch for 2022, likely to be the facelifted ZS EV, has been spotted on test once again. The latest spy shots bring to light an interesting revelation: the facelifted electric SUV will get an interior and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems that is similar to the Astor, the ZS EV’s ICE-powered counterpart.

The presence of a camera in the front windshield and 360-degree cameras on the ORVMs are the main giveaway that the ZS EV will get ADAS. Their functionality should be similar to the Astor, with features like autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control,  lane-keep/departure assist, and blind spot detection.

Inside, the electric SUV will now get the Astor’s larger 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, eliminating the need for physical climate control knobs. The AI Bot is missing in this test mule, but it could be offered in the final product. Also, the dashboard is expected to be finished in soft touch plastics and we hope MG offers more than one interior colour scheme.

It should also get new features like a wireless phone charger, digital driver’s display, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Equipment like connected car tech, panoramic sunroof, powered driver’s seat, LED headlamps, and keyless entry with push button start will be retained.

Passenger safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors, and electronic stability control.

The 2022 ZS EV’s highlight, though, is likely to be underneath the hood as the international model now gets a 51kWh battery pack instead of the existing 44kWh unit. Paired with the same 143PS electric motor, the driving range should see a slight improvement over the current model’s claimed 419km figure. As before, the SUV should support fast charging capabilities as well.

The facelifted ZS EV is likely to command a premium over the current model that is priced from Rs 21.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will renew its rivalry with the Hyundai Kona Electric
