Apart from offering an extra set of doors, the Gurkha 5-door will also get select changes to styling and off-road gear

  • Force Gurkha 5-door spotted once again ahead of debut.
  • Gets rectangular headlights and bespoke alloys to set it apart from the three-door model.
  • Longer SUV gets captain seats for the last row.
  • It also features an electronically controlled four-wheel drive selector.
  • Mercedes-sourced 2.6-litre diesel engine could get more power.
  • Expected to launch in the coming months.

The Force Gurkha 5-door, basically a longer version of the 3-door model, has been in the works for a while now. And there are certain instances where the off-roader SUV has been snapped completely undisguised. The Gurkha 5-door has been spotted once again, and this time around it has been seen with a couple of crucial changes.

Yes, previous spy shots of the Gurkha 5-door have shown a very similar fascia when compared to the smaller 3-door model. But the off-roader was now seen with squared-out halogen headlights instead of the round LED units found on the smaller SUV. It also rolls on a different set of 18-inch ten-spoke alloys, differentiating it from the Gurkha 3-door. Also, being a longer model, it gets captain seats for the third-row occupants

Another big change for the SUV comes in the form of its off-road gear: an electronically controlled shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive selector. This allows you to shift from 2H (two-wheel-drive) to 4H (four-wheel-drive) with the twist of a knob. However, do note that you would have to be in a complete halt (like all off-roaders) to shift to 4L (four-wheel-drive low).

The Gurkha 5-door is expected to be powered by the same Mercedes-sourced 91PS 2.6-litre diesel engine, probably with a bit more power. It will likely get the same 5-speed manual ‘box. The Gurkha also gets a snorkel, allowing for deeper water wading as well as mechanical locking differentials at the front and rear axles for better off-roading prowess.

Force is expected to announce the prices of the Gurkha 5-door sometime later this year, even though there isn’t a clear word on the same. It will command a premium over the smaller three-door model that’s priced from Rs 14.75 lakh (ex-showroom) and will lock horns with the Mahindra Thar 5-door while being a larger alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Jimny.
