Likely to begin a new range of SUVs for Haval, which currently has the F series and H series in its stable

  • Design highlights include a sharp and boxy silhouette, with a mix of modern bits to give it a retro look.
  • Interior is likely to feature a large touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster.
  • Could be powered by engines already present in current Haval SUVs.
  • Official name and full details to be out soon.

Great Wall Motors’ current lineup of vehicles include Haval’s H and F series of SUVs, as well as the ORA range of EVs. This lineup was also showcased at Auto Expo 2020 back in February this year. And now, Haval has unveiled its next SUV that sports a different design route than the rest of the lineup.

Starting from the outside, the new SUV, which doesn’t have a name yet, features a sharp and boxy overall silhouette. Up front, it sports a large grille paired with circular headlights with LED DRLs surrounding them. Other design highlights include flared wheel arches, body cladding and swanky L-shaped tail lights that resemble the Concept H SUV. All this gives the new SUV a retro look. Considering this shift in design philosophy, it is likely to be underpinned by a brand new platform.

Interiors of the new SUV are yet to be revealed, but we can expect bits like a large touchscreen infotainment system coupled with a digital driver’s display, an ongoing trend for Haval vehicles.  Another interesting point about Haval’s new SUV is that it has been designed under Phil Simmons, an ex-Jaguar Land Rover designer. So it is likely that we’ll get some neat design bits on the inside as well.

There’s no information yet on what will power the SUV, but it is likely to be one that is shared amongst other Haval SUVs. Currently, a range of 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbo petrol mills in different tunes make up the engine options on Haval SUVs.

Expect more details on Haval’s new SUV to surface, including the name, in the coming days. Back home, the Haval F5 and F7 SUVs are most likely to kickstart Great Wall Motors’ operations in India in 2021. Expect them to take on rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Hector and Jeep Compass once launched. Don’t expect Haval’s new SUV in India anytime soon though.
