Kawasaki has had some WILD ideas for its bikes over the years. Be it putting a supercharger in a 1000cc bike, or four cylinders in a 250cc bike and giving it a near 16,000rpm redline. And one such wild bike is coming to India.
The brand’s latest teaser shows the outline of a bike that’s unmistakably a Ninja, accompanied by the sweet inline-four soundtrack which is therapy for us enthusiasts. So which Ninja is it? Well, given the Ninja lineup’s extremely similar styling, it’s hard enough to differentiate between them in broad daylight, let alone from just a silhouette. But our sources have told us it’ll be the Ninja ZX-4R, the 399cc inline-four supersport that was unveiled earlier this year. You can have a closer look at it here.

And that mill makes a massive 77PS (80PS with a ram air intake) at a mind-boggling 14,500rpm. Even the 39Nm kicks in at 13,000rpm. But that’s hardly it. That firepower is backed by solid hardware. A Showa separate function USD fork, a vertically mounted preload-adjustable monoshock, big dual discs at the front and a 189kg kerb weight that doesn’t sound all that much. If that wasn’t enough, wait till you hear that there are power modes, smartphone connectivity, traction control, a quickshifter, slip-and-assist clutch, and a lot more.
So yeah, the ZX-4R is definitely one wild child and it is coming to India. And no, we know what you’re thinking, it will not be cheap at all. Kawasaki’s lower-capacity bikes have always been very pricey and this one, given that it packs so much, will obviously be very expensive. Something around the Rs 8-9 lakh (ex-showroom) mark, is what could be a safe bet for it. Yes, that price is way above what a 400cc costs, but the bike itself is also way above its 400cc counterparts. Stay tuned to ZigWheels for more about the bike.
