During the Emira unveiling, Lotus had made it clear that all future offerings would be purely electric only. Now, the carmaker has dropped the first official teaser of the Type 132 electric SUV, set to debut in 2022. By the looks of it, Lotus’ first electric SUV will get aggressive styling.
While the teaser doesn’t reveal much, we got a glimpse of the active grille shutter, with the rest of the design around the grille hinting at a sporty-looking body. We’ve yet to know the dimensions, but here’s what we know so far -- the Type 132 will be built on Lotus’ Premium architecture, which supports wheelbases ranging from 2889mm-3100mm.
Technical details are yet to surface, but models under the Premium architecture will have powertrains accommodating up to 120kWh batteries and use 800-volt charging tech. Also, expect the SUV to bolt off the mark, with the carmaker claiming that some products developed on this platform would be capable of going from 0-100kmph in under three seconds.
The Lotus Type 132 SUV may just be a codename for now, and we reckon the actual nameplate will be revealed closer to its debit. After the Type 132, Lotus will unleash the Type 133 four-door electric coupe in 2023, followed by the Type 134 SUV by 2025. An all-electric sports car, called the Type 135, is expected to break cover by 2026.
