Second-gen Celerio appears to be bigger on all fronts and also taller than the current generation model.
It is likely to retain the 67PS 1.0-litre petrol engine found in the outgoing model.
83PS 1.2-litre engine is also expected to be offered this time around like the Wagon R.
Expect the second-gen Celerio to get some upgrades in terms of features and cabin material quality.
Expected to launch by the end of 2020.
Maruti Suzuki’s Celerio has been a revolutionary hatchback as it was the first car in India to offer an AMT (automated manual transmission). Now, it is ready to receive the long-awaited generation update and should hit the market by year end. The second-gen Celerio was recently spotted testing and reveals quite a bit about what we can expect.
In terms of dimensions, the new Celerio appears to be bigger on all fronts and even a bit taller. This is because the Celerio is likely to be underpinned by the same Heartect platform as the WagonR.
Inside, the second-gen Celerio is expected to get updated features, highlighted by Maruti’s new SmartPlay Studio touchscreen infotainment system. The cabin itself should be more premium as compared to the current model along with the additional space.
Under the hood, the next-gen Celerio is likely to retain its 1.0-litre all-aluminium petrol motor that produces 67PS and 90Nm. It may also see the addition of Maruti’s 83PS 1.2-litre petrol engine as an option. Transmission options will consist of Maruti’s standard offerings throughout its lineup: a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT.
While the second-gen Celerio will maintain its affordability status, expect it to carry a premium over the current generation model which retails from Rs 4.41 lakh to Rs 5.68 lakh (ex-showroom). It must be in its final stages of testing as it is expected to be launched by the end of this year.
