While announcing the winner for its camouflage design contest, Skoda did what we all wanted the carmaker to do. It teased the Slavia, of course in camo, giving us more than just a sneak peek at the Rapid’s successor in India. The compact sedan will be revealed towards the end of this year, while deliveries will begin in early-2022.

Yes, we will tell you who won the design contest. But before that, let's delve deep into the Slavia’s styling.

Sure, the orange camo masks the finer design touches. But from what we can see, the large butterfly grille and sleek headlamps lend the Slavia a mini-Octavia-like appearance. We also hope the production model gets these sporty-looking blacked-out alloys. The sedan’s wheelbase is longer than the Rapid, so that should translate to a roomier cabin.

Trivia: Unlike the Rapid, the Slavia will be a notchback with a liftback tailgate a la the Octavia and Superb.

Skoda has yet to showcase the upcoming compact sedan’s interior. But if spy shots are anything to go by, the design will be similar to the Kushaq. Even the feature list is likely to be the same as the compact SUV.

Likely features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a single-pane sunroof, ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and auto headlamps and wipers. Passenger safety should be taken care of by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control.

The compact sedan will get the Kushaq’s 115PS 1-litre and 150PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines, paired with a 6-speed manual. The smaller engine will get an optional 6-speed torque converter and the larger motor a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic.

The Slavia will likely be priced from Rs 10 lakh, putting it in the same league as the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the upcoming VW Vento successor (Virtus) and Toyota Belta.

Now, to the lucky chap who won the design competition. Shreyas Karambelkar bagged first place while the runner-up was Ben Stewart. The winner will fly to Prague to meet Skoda’s design head, Oliver Stefani, while the runner up will be given a tablet.
