The Gurkha pickup truck that has been snapped for the first time seems to be based on the longer 5-door version of the SUV

This particular test mule spotting completely caught us by surprise. Force Motors has been testing the Gurkha pickup truck, which has been snapped for the first time ever. And the thing that’s even more puzzling is this model seems very close to production without even a single drop of camouflage on it.

The pickup truck that has been snapped is based on the upcoming 5-door model that has been spotted on multiple occasions. Even bits like the five split-spoke alloys have been carried forward without any change. The only design change we can see in these images is behind the rear doors where the cabin has been replaced with a flat bed to convert this into a pickup truck.

The insides are yet to be snapped, but an earlier peek into the 5-door model’s cabin revealed the same interior layout as the existing on-sale 3-door SUV. So it’s likely the extremely basic dashboard layout with the sparse number of features such as manual AC and an aftermarket based touchscreen infotainment system is likely to be carried forward.

Powering the Gurkha is a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 2.6-litre diesel engine belting out 91PS and 250Nm. In the pickup and 5-door model, these numbers could be bumped up to support its larger size. And as for its drivetrain, it should continue sending power via a 5-speed manual transmission and four-wheel drivetrain with mechanical locking differentials.

However, now to the big question - Will the Gurkha pickup truck be launched in India? That’s something only time will tell. It must also be noted that Force retails the Gurkha pickup as the Ksatria in the Indonesian market. However, it would be great to see this model making it to our markets as pickups are niche and currently occupied by only two models: the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.

With so much potential on hand and the Gurkha having a strong market name, we do hope Force considers launching this model in our market.
