Brawny looks, premium underpinnings and a potent engine, the Scrambler 650 packs a punch

Another Royal Enfield bike has been spied testing and this time it’s the Scrambler 650. The bike’s been spotted next to a fuel pump and it does look quite brawny and compact.

The circular headlight and rear-view mirrors along with the teardrop-shaped fuel tank with knee recesses look old school and quite nice. Previous spy shots have revealed that it gets an LED headlight from the Super Meteor 650. They also confirmed that the small flyscreen and a headlight grille were both accessories as the test mule didn’t get them this time.

Powering the bike will be the marque’s 648cc, parallel twin heart with performance figures that should be in the ballpark of 47.6PS and 52Nm. What’s good to see is the new two-in-one exhaust setup, which should result in a substantially lesser weight. Underpinnings include an inverted fork and twin shocks, which aren’t gas-charged ones as those on the Interceptor 650. The bike will get disc brakes at both ends and dual-channel ABS will be standard. Whether Royal Enfield will opt for switchable ABS for the Scrambler 650 remains to be seen. Have a closer look at its console and switchgear here.

And no, it’s unlikely that the spoke wheels will have tubeless tyres. As for the wheels, the rear one looks smaller than the front one and the bike could roll on an 18-/16-inch wheel combination. The Scrambler 650 could debut by mid 2024 at a price tag of around Rs 3.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Its closest rival would be the Moto Morini Seiemmezzo 6 ½ Scrambler in our market. The bike could be called the Royal Enfield Interceptor Bear 650 because of the brand’s latest trademark
