The main focus of the design of the interior is on being spacious and minimalistic
  • The main focus for the interior design was a spacious cabin, achieved through a minimalistic dash layout and a panoramic sunroof.

  • The ID.4 gets 30-colour mood lighting and ID.Light.

  • Seat upholstery is partially made of a microfibre which consists of 20% recycled PET bottles.

  • The ID.4 is Volkswagen’s first all-electric SUV.

Volkswagen is all set to unveil its first electric SUV, the ID.4, but not without teasing us a bit. VW is giving us little bits here and there in anticipation of the ID.4’s world debut and this time it has revealed the interior of the SUV.

To get in, you’ll cross paths with the flush fitting door handles, which come with electronic locking. Inside, the cabin appears spacious thanks to the fluidic design. Another key factor is the minimalism of the layout. A floating infotainment system, through which you can operate almost all of the ID.4’s features, gives the illusion of a disconnected centre console. An ambient lighting system adds to the intended effect of a spacious cabin.

The features list is headed by the ID.4’s ID.Light, a strip that runs throughout the dash below the windscreen and uses intuitive lighting effects in different colours to inform the driver about the various functions of the car. In addition to that, it gets mood lighting with a 30-colour spectrum, and a tilting panoramic sunroof.

The ID.4 contributes to the environment in more ways than one. Aside from producing zero emissions, the seats are partially made up of a microfibre material which constitutes 20 percent recycled PET bottles. With the rear seats upright, the ID.4 boasts a boot space of 543 litres.

While specs of the ID.4 are still under wraps, VW claims one of the many range options even exceeds the WLTP-claimed 500km. Though the ID.4 will only be available as a RWD variant on reveal, an AWD variant is on the cards for the future. The variant available on launch could borrow its powertrain from the ID.3 hatchback, which produces 204PS and 310Nm.

Sister company Skoda revealed its first e-SUV, the Enyaq IV, on September 1. An India launch for the ID.4 might just be possible since the ID.Crozz was displayed at the Auto Expo 2020. It will see the ID.4 being priced above other electric compact SUVs like the MG ZS EV (Rs 20.88 lakh-Rs 23.58 lakh) and Hyundai Kona Electric (Rs 23.75 lakh-Rs 23.94 lakh).
