Whenever a part is replaced, ask the service crew to return the old part. Not just that, but have them explain what went wrong and show you the problem in the part.

Also in the event of replacing any part, inform the service crew to always check with you first.

If they have to call you before any replacement, they better have their story right. It also gives you time to check around for a second opinion and then get back to the service manager to give the final go ahead on whether the part needs to be replaced or not.

Plan unscheduled visits

If your vehicle is in for some major work, it makes sense to plan unscheduled visits to the service station. This will immediately give you an idea on just how your vehicle is being taken care of. This will also breed a sense of sincerely as your presence at the dealership can be rather impromptu.

Ask for a parts price list

Most service centers have a parts inventory list and price list. If you are ever in doubt about a particular part, always get it cross checked with the list.
