The 2023 Tata Safari facelift is now available to book for a token amount of Rs 25,000. It can be picked in a choice of four broad trims: Smart, Pure, Adventure, and Accomplished. And if you’re someone looking to pick the lower-end variants, this report is for you, as we explain what the one-above-base Pure variant packs in our image gallery.
The 2023 Safari Pure looks very similar to the entry-level Smart variant, which isn't a bad thing as they don’t look too stripped down. The grille is finished in black and you’ll get the full width LED DRLs and headlights as well. In profile, it rolls on 17-inch alloys from the previous model, while the rear-end continues to feature connected LED tail lamps. Bumpers with silver skid plates round off the overall design.
It’s just that the small attention to detail bits that have been given the boot here. For instance, the connected DRLs and tail lamps don’t have the welcoming functionality higher-end variants offer. And there’s no fog lamps as well on offer.
Also, the Pure variant can be picked up in two colours only: Stellar Frost and Lunar Slate.
Inside, the biggest addition in this trim over the base variant is the presence of a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Also, the digital driver’s display is a 10.25-inch unit with multiple customisation options. The cabin, which gets different hues depending on the variant you pick, is finished in black with grey fabric upholstery.
The Safari’s second variant gets most of the features that will suffice you for your daily usage. Apart from the aforementioned screens, highlights include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, single-zone automatic climate control, a 45W USB Type-C charger for front row occupants, 6-speaker sound system, electrically adjustable, and foldable ORVMs as well as remote locking.
Apart from that, the Safari Pure packs all the comfort and safety features offered in the base variant, which you can read about here. And to check out what the higher-end variants pack, head to this report.
The Safari gets a sole 170PS 2-litre diesel engine, and in the Pure variant, teamed with a 6-speed manual transmission. If you want an automatic transmission, you’d have to step up to the Adventure Plus trim.
We suspect Tata to announce prices of the new Safari and Harrier in the coming weeks. You can expect it to command a notable premium over the outgoing model, which started from Rs 15.84 lakh (ex-showroom). It will continue to lock horns with the Mahindra XUV700, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar.
