Bajaj has launched its popular cruiser Avenger with a 150cc engine. Here’s what you should expect from it
2015 Bajaj Avenger 150 Street

Ever since Bajaj brought in the Avenger in 2005, it has been a popular choice for those who love cruisers. Although it didn’t set new benchmarks in terms of quality, it had decent performance, good comfort and most importantly affordability to go with it. With this new range of Avengers, Bajaj Auto has taken the game a step further. And by launching the Avenger in a 150cc variant, Bajaj has made the moniker more accessible to a lot of potential buyers.

Design:

While the overall silhouette of the new Avenger 150 Street is more or less similar to the older models, look closely and you will notice a lot of new elements that makes it look fresh. Bajaj has given the spoke wheels a boot in this 150 Street model and have fitted it with 12-spoke alloy wheels. The engine casing too has been changed and it now gets an all-black treatment. The most beautiful change on the new Avenger 150 Street though is the dual-tone exhaust. It has been smartly sculpted to sync with the rest of the design. The Bajaj Avenger 150 Street now gets a semi-digital console instead of an all-analog one.

Engine and Suspension:

The Avenger 150 Street sports the same engine that we have already seen on the Pulsar 150. However, in this state of tune it makes 14.54PS of peak power and 12.5Nm of peak torque. All the power is sent to the rear wheels with the help of a 5-speed gearbox. Going by the experience we have had with the Pulsar 150, we expect the Avenger 150 Street to impress in terms of performance.

The Avenger 150 Street gets telescopic forks up front and a twin shock setup at the back. Just like the older Avenger models, we expect this one to offer comfortable riding dynamics too. However, it must be noted that the seat height has now been increased by 15mm. One of the drawbacks of a cruiser offering is its ground clearance. But that should be the case with the new Avenger range thanks to its 169mm ground clearance.

Price and Fuel Efficiency:

Like we mentioned at the beginning of this article, with the launch of a 150cc model in its Avenger range Bajaj has managed to make the moniker accessible to a lot of buyers. And that isn’t just in terms of price but also fuel efficiency. The Pulsar 150 boasts of an ARAI claimed fuel efficiency of 65kmpl, so we expect the Avenger 150 Street to return more or less the same.

As far as pricing is concerned, Bajaj has once again managed to price the Avenger 150 Street brilliantly. At Rs 75,000 (ex-showroom Delhi) it is about Rs 4,000 higher than the Pulsar 150, making the most affordable cruiser offering in the country. Consider into your calculation that the Bajaj Avenger 150 Street doesn’t really have a competitor in the market as yet and you have the makings of a successful entry-level cruiser.
