Pros and Cons of Interceptor 650
- Most affordable 650cc bike in India
- Linear yet exciting power delivery
- Extremely refined engine
- Lacks features
- Uncomfortable for pillion riders
- Rear suspension is a little too soft
To our surprise, the Interceptor 650 felt more like a 90’s Honda and less like a Royal Enfield, given its refinement levels and performance. The engine feels amazing with loads of torque on offer and a nice sound from its twin exhausts. Overall quality is quite good and the motorcycle feels like it is built to last. This can easily be called the best Royal Enfield bike out there.

Beginning of the RE’s 650cc Chapter
- The Interceptor 650 is one of the first 650cc twin-cylinder motorcycles from Royal Enfield
- It has a timeless engine, which even after 6 years of launch feels lovely to ride
- It is still the most affordable twin-cylinder bike in India, starting at 3.03 lakh (ex-showroom)
-
Muscular Design - Attractive Looks
- The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 comes with a retro-roadster design
- It features a round headlight, a sculpted fuel tank and a twin-pod instrument console which complement its retro looks
- It comes with 7 gorgeous colour options to choose from
- The Interceptor has great paint quality and clean weld joints
- The rectangular tail light looks a little too old and sticks out like a sore thumb
- The dual exhausts are not proportionate with the overall design of the bike and stick out too much
-
Powerful and Refined
- The 650cc parallel-twin engine on the Interceptor feels super smooth while riding
- The Interceptor 650 offers a powerful performance and has a great pull throughout the rev range
- The bike can be ridden at slow speeds in higher gears, without any stress, thanks to the good low-end torque
- The light clutch action makes it easier to ride through heavy traffic, thanks to the slip-and-assist clutch
- In our tests, it delivered a mileage of 25.35kmpl in the city and 33.17kmpl
- The top-end performance has been toned down in the BS6 model, because of a different engine tune
- The slight drop in grunt is visible when it takes longer to overtake at higher speeds
-
Fun to Ride Roadster
- The Interceptor 650 is a sweet handling bike and has a responsive chassis
- The bike feels very stable at high speeds and is planted around the corners and twisties
- Braking performance is good - The bite and progression are spot on
- With a 218kg kerb weight, the Interceptor 650 feels heavy to manoeuvre
- The CEAT Zoom Cruz tyres do not offer a good grip when you ride it hard
-
Enjoyable and Relaxed
- The soft rear suspension performs decently at higher speeds
- The large 18-inch wheels help handle bad roads easily
- The telescopic fork lacks firmness and bottoms out on sharp bumps and potholes every now and then
- The rear suspension is too soft and feels bouncy at slower speeds
-
Retro Essence In the Console
- The LED headlight adds a modern touch to the bike and lights up the road better than the older halogen headlight
- The twin-pod instrument console on the Interceptor 650 complements its retro vibe
- It has a digital inset that displays the fuel level, odometer, and tripmeters
- Misses out on clock, distance-to-empty reading, and gear position indicator
- The rotary switches require extra attention and effort to operate unless you are accustomed to them
- The digital inset is too small and the even smaller text is not clearly readable while riding
-
Powerful Yet Elegant
- The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 looks amazing and has a powerful and smooth engine
- The Interceptor is a delight to ride, thanks to its impressive performance and comfortable riding posture
- The Interceptor 650 is a great value-for-money bike, given the performance and features it offers
- The attractive price tag makes it a desirable bike for someone looking to get a versatile middle-weight retro-roadster
