Two launches from Volvo next month, and not just variants but new cars. The big one of course is the XC90 but there’s also the V40 hatchback, the base on which the V40 Cross Country was developed. While the V40 Cross Country was introduced a few years ago, the Swedish Carmaker only now is using the moniker to its full potential, first by launching the petrol powered Cross Country today and following it up with the hatchback next month.
The V40 hatchback will be the most affordable Volvo on sale in India and will come with a strong diesel engine under its hood. The engine is from Volvo’s new Drive-E family of 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engines we are now familiar with from XC60 and S60, but in the V40, it will be in a lower state of tune. The V40 in D3 trim develops 152PS of peak power at 3750rpm and 320Nm of peak torque between 1750-3000rpm. The engine will send power to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
The V40 will be offered in two trims and expect the top end trim to come kitted to the gills with comfort and safety features. The V40 hatchback will take on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and BMW 1-Series in the luxury hatchback segment. What works in favour of the V40 is that it will be the most powerful hatchback among the three.
Expect prices to start around the Rs 25 lakh mark for the Volvo hatchback.
