Skoda India has commenced the testing of its upcoming sub-4 metre SUV, which is slated for an Indian market debut in March 2025. These spy shots of the upcoming model give us a good look at its exterior and interior design, even through the camouflage. The upcoming subcompact SUV model, which is yet to be named, has been teased earlier and Skoda is also having a competition where you can christen the model.
At the front, the upcoming model gets the Skoda signature butterfly grille, flanked by LED DRLs that double up as indicators. Right below the DRLs are the LED headlights, which are placed in their own separate housing for the split setup. The airdam in the bumper has a honeycomb mesh grille.
The silhouette of Skoda’s sub-4 metre SUV looks like a truncated version of its bigger brother, the Kushaq. This particular test mule is seen sitting on steel wheels with a plastic cover. That said, the final production model will get dual-tone alloys.
At the rear, once again the inspiration from the Kushaq is aplenty with a similar tail lamp design with LEDs and halogen bulbs.
The latest spy shots also give a glimpse into the upcoming model’s cabin. Though draped in camouflage, it seems to get a similar floating touchscreen infotainment system, likely to be an 8-inch unit as the Kushaq. Top models are expected to get a much larger 10-inch unit.
Other expected features on board include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, a digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, a single-pane sunroof and keyless entry with push-button start.
Passenger safety should be taken care of by up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors with rear view camera, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Underneath the hood, the sub-4 metre SUV is expected to get just a sole 115PS 1-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
The model will be based on a shortened version of the MQB-A0 IN platform that underpins the Skoda Slavia and Skoda Kushaq.
Skoda India is expected to price this upcoming model from around Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom), when it goes on sale sometime around March 2025. It will face competition from other sub-4m SUVs such as the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Toyota Taisor, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and the soon-to-be-launched Mahindra XUV 3XO (XUV300 facelift).
