Bajaj Pulsar P150 Expert Review

The Bajaj Pulsar P150 is an evolution of the iconic Pulsar 150 that was at one point all the craze in India. With the Pulsar P150, Bajaj is trying to recapture those emotions.

Design

The bike comes in 2 variants, a single disc and twin disc one. Both variants come with different riding postures and slight differences in design. The single disc variant features a single piece seat, midset footpegs and an easy-to-reach handlebar that gives the rider an upright riding posture. The twin disc variant on the other hand comes with clip-on handlebars, slightly rearset footpegs and a split seat setup that gives the rider a sportier riding posture. Both variants feature an underbelly exhaust setup that makes it look quite aggressive.

Engine, Mileage and performance

The engine powering the Pulsar P150 is a 149.68cc single cylinder engine  mated to a 5-speed gearbox and it generates 14.5PS at 8500rpm and 13.5Nm at 6000rpm. The power figures are quite decent but the engine overall feels like it struggles to keep up when revved out, this isn’t a major issue as the bike is a commuter afterall. The bike is able to give fuel efficiency of  49.7kmpl in the city and 48.8kmpl on the highway.

Handling and Ride quality

Handling wise the P150 comes off as agile and light, making it easy to manoeuvre through traffic and a good commuter overall. The design makes it feel light and small things like placement of the exhaust on the bike’s underbelly gives it a more balanced feel. The suspension setup is based on a 31mm telescopic fork and a monoshock in the rear, the setup is decent and is able to provide a smooth riding experience through bad road conditions.

Comfort

The Pulsar P150 is able to offer a comfortable riding experience, and the seats in both variants of the bike are adequately cushioned. The bike can easily handle both long journeys and short city commutes. The single disc variant of the P150 comes with a single long seat that is very spacious and can easily accommodate riders and pillions of all sizes. The twin disc variant has a split seat setup with clip-on handlebars and rearset footpegs that gives the bike a sportier riding posture but the posture isn’t too committed so riders won’t have to worry about discomfort.

Features

The Pulsar P150 features a semi-digital instrument cluster with an analogue tachometer, similar to the one we have seen on the Pulsar N250. It displays standard information like speed, rpm and fuel level along with other readouts like gear position and distance to empty. But overall the bike feels like it misses out on a lot like smartphone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation that its competitors have. The bike comes with single-channel ABS as standard and gets all LED lighting. There’s also a USB charging port.

Should you buy the P150

The P150 is a decent commuter motorcycle that offers smooth riding experience and great manoeuvrability, but it misses out on a lot of features that its competitors come with. If you’re looking for a simple and reliable motorcycle then the P150 is a good choice but if you want the same deal with more features then it is best to look at the alternatives like, the Yamaha FZ Fi, Honda Unicorn and the TVS Apache RTR 160 2V
