The new motorcycle comes to India via the CBU route but are priced fairly competitively. The F 900 XR is a sports tourer styled along the lines of the S 1000 XR. It gets similar twin headlamps, adjustable windscreen and long-travel suspension. Features include all LED lighting with a dynamic LED tail lamp that flashes continuously under hard braking. It gets a 6.5-inch colour TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity.
Like the F 900 R, the F 900 XR gets a 895cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin motor that offers 105PS and 92Nm. Safety rider aids include traction control, ABS and two rider modes -- Road and Rain with the Pro variant getting an additional Cruise Control. The F 900 XR gets a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch and the Pro variants gets a quickshifter.
The F 900 XR gets a bridge-type frame with long-travel suspension in the form of 43mm upside-down forks and a monoshock adjustable for preload and damping. Its Pro variant gets semi-active electronically adjustable rear suspension. It gets 17-inch alloy wheels with touring-oriented Michelin Road 5 GT tyres and brakes in the form of dual 320mm discs with radial Brembo calipers and a 265mm rear disc.
The F 900 XR has a kerb weight of 219kg which is just 8kg more than the F 900 R. It also gets a larger 15.5-litre fuel tank and a taller 825mm seat.
The F 900 XR does not have any direct competitors but indirectly competes against the Ducati Multistrada 950 and the Kawasaki Ninja 1000.
