The Thar is back for it’s second innings. And boy does it look like it’s come well-prepared. Under the hood - for the first time ever - is a petrol engine. There’s a 6-speed automatic on offer too. And if you’re a bit old school, you still have the option of a diesel, and a manual transmission. 4x4 is offered as standard.
Mahindra has tried to make the Thar a bit more 21st century with additions like a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver’s display, a 6-speaker sound system, steering-mounted audio and call controls as well as cruise control. If this sounds unimportant to you, maybe numbers like 226mm of ground clearance, 650mm of water wading capacity, and 41.8° approach, 27° rampover, and 36.8° departure angle make more sense.
