The 2020 Mahindra Thar SUV is a more comfortable and feature equipped successor to the original Mahindra Thar. In its new generation, it maintains its off road credentials with a proper ladder frame chassis, improved departure and breakover angles, and more electronics for both, better safety and off road capability. It also comes with more creature comforts to make it more acceptable as a family car.
However, the old Thar was all about fitness for purpose. It traces its DNA to pure utilitarian off-roaders like the CJ3B, MM540, MM550, Classic and Major, and hence, was explicitly about taken the unexplored path. So with an increased focus on creature comforts and usability, has the new Thar forgotten its roots? Does it match the original for capability off-road or is there a compromise?
