Monocoque is the term used to indicate when the body of the vehicle is designed and built to support the weight of the vehicle and perform any other function of a chassis. This is achieved by strengthening the floor of the vehicle, the pillars and using bracing along various parts of the body. Monocoque SUVs are significantly lighter and thus, all other things being equal, offer better performance & fuel efficiency. They also have superior ride comfort and road dynamics. Monocoque SUVs are safer because of more effective crumple zones (though there are always exceptions to the rule). The chassis arrangement in XUV 500 is very well tuned to keep the ride smoother. In addition to this, the powerful construct and wide grounding of the vehicle also boosts stability during the ride.
