Mercedes-Benz is all set to introduce the A-Class limousine on March 25. It will be Mercedes’ entry-level model in its India lineup. Mercedes will offer the luxury sedan with standard petrol and diesel engines along with an AMG A35 trim. Here are five things you need to know about it:
The Powertrains
The standard variants of the A-Class Limousine will come with two engines: 163PS/250Nm 1.3-litre petrol and 150PS/320Nm 2.0-litre diesel. The petrol engine is offered with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic while the diesel utilises an 8-speed DCT. Mercedes claims a fuel efficiency of 17.5kmpl on the petrol model, which comes with start-stop tech.
Enthusiasts can also rejoice as there will be a spicier AMG variant on offer. The A35 will be the second locally assembled AMG to go on sale. It will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that pushes out 306PS of power and 400Nm of torque. It will get an all-wheel drivetrain coupled with a 7-speed DCT gearbox. It is capable of doing the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.8 seconds, before hitting its top speed of 250kmph.
Design Details
The A-Class limousine will follow Mercedes’ latest design language. Starting up front, it gets a curved front face with a wide grille. It gets LED headlamps and two-piece wraparound tail lamps. It gets an upright roofline, which creates more headroom for taller passengers compared to the CLA. It has a luggage capacity of 405 litres under the boot.
Interior Matters
Even though the A-Class Limo will be Merc’s entry-level model, it’s just as posh as its expensive siblings on the inside. It comes with the carmaker's trademark twin-screen setup comprising a touchscreen infotainment system and a digital driver’s display. The dual-tone black and beige dashboard on the standard model also seems well finished with good quality materials. But what really ups the sense of occasion at night is the ambient lighting, especially the streaks on the dashboard and the AC vents.
Features On Board
Mercedes-Benz will equip the A-Class limousine with the latest MBUX 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver’s display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Mercedes Me connected car tech, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and electronically adjustable front seats. Safety will be covered by seven airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and a rear view camera.
Pricing and Rivals
Mercedes-Benz is expected to price the A-Class Limousine from Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). It will take on the likes of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and the upcoming 2021 Audi A3. The locally assembled AMG is expected to be priced at Rs 60 lakh.
