We already know the faired bike has been patented in India, and here’s an analysis of its price, if Honda indeed launches it here

Recently, patents of the Honda CBR150R in India surfaced online, hinting at the possibility of its launch here. We have several reasons to believe Honda could launch it here. But if Honda does indeed, how much should the Japanese bikemaker price the bike at? We analyse:

In order to keep a benchmark, we need to consider the nearest motorcycle that’s also available in the same market as the Honda CBR150NR, apart from being available in India as well. For this, the Thai-spec Honda CB300R fits the bill perfectly. The neo-retro motorcycle is priced at THB 151,690 (around Rs 3.50 lakh) in the country. Note that the company still sells the BS4-compliant model there, so compared to that price, the India-spec BS6-compliant version is around 20 percent less expensive, at Rs 2,77,000 (ex-showroom Delhi).

On the other hand, the Thai-spec 2021 Honda CBR150R retails at THB 92,900 (around Rs 2.14 lakh). If we apply the same delta (20 percent) of the India and Thai-spec CB300R’s price with the Thai-spec Honda CB150R, then the India-spec faired bike should cost around Rs 1.71 lakh (ex-showroom).

This price point seems to be fair considering its primary rival, the Yamaha R15 V4, is pegged at Rs 1,72,800 (ex-showroom Delhi). But for Honda to achieve this price point, it will have to localise the faired bike heavily in India, just like it did with the CB300R. If Honda manages to nail the pricing, it will help the Japanese brand grab a share of the 150cc supersport segment that has so far been ruled undeniably by the Yamaha R15 family. The upcoming Honda CBR150R will also be the company’s most affordable faired bike. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
