You might have noticed that lots of hatchbacks to day have a wiper on the rear window. In India mostly top end variants of hatchbacks in the B segment come with a rear wash wipe feature. In the western part of the globe all hatchbacks come with rear wash wipe feature.
The rear wash wipe feature is an essential feature on cars which do not have a boot. SUVs, MUVs, notchbacks and hatchbacks come with rear wash wipe. This is because a boot blocks all the dirt and slush thrown upwards by the forward motion of the rear wheels. Because the rear wheels on SUVs, MUVs, notchbacks and hatchbacks are located so close to the rear bumper the dirt and slush thrown upwards due to the forward motion of a car makes it up to the rear window. A dirty rear window restricts vision in the rear view mirror. A washer over the rear window sprays water on the rear window and the wiper clears the dirt from the window so that visibility in the rear view mirror is clear. A clean rear window is also useful to see out of while reversing a car.
