Tata Tiago CNG And Tigor CNG To Be First CNG Cars In India To Be Offered With Automatic Transmission

• CNG variants of the Tata Tiago and Tigor to come equipped with 5-speed AMT.

• Currently, they are only offered with a 5-speed manual transmission paired with the 1.2-litre petrol engine.

• The Tiago CNG is priced from Rs 6.55 lakh, while Tigor CNG starts from Rs 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Motors has teased the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG with its 5-speed AMT gearbox. They will be the first CNG cars in the Indian market to be offered with the convenience of automatic transmission. In our market, cars with factory-fitted CNG kits are generally offered only with manual transmissions. 

Engine Specifications

Currently, the CNG variants of both the Tiago and Tigor are available only with a 5-speed manual transmission, paired with a 1.2-litre petrol engine. With the introduction of the 5-speed AMT, we don’t expect any changes to its power output. Take a quick look at the engine specifications below. 

The Tiago is an entry-level hatchback from Tata Motors, while the Tigor is a sub-4m sedan based on the same model. Both vehicles share similar styling, provide a similar cabin experience, and come equipped with an identical feature set. An unique advantage of both the cars is that they will be equipped with the Tata’s twin-cylinder technology, freeing up additional space in the boot.

Prices for the Tiago CNG start from Rs 6.55 lakh while that for the Tigor CNG start from Rs 7.80 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the AMT models to command a premium of around Rs 60,000 over their respective manual variants. The Tiago CNG locks horns with the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG, Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG, and the Wagon R CNG. On the other hand, the Tigor CNG rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire CNG and Hyundai Aura CNG.
