Mercedes-Benz will be launching the electric version of the iconic G-Wagen, called the EQG 580 and with that the German automaker will hope to give the G-Wagen's legacy a new direction. The electric SUV’s design looks familiar and retains the charm of the ICE version, but it has certain new design elements that set it apart. It features a large battery pack, multiple electric motors that churn out a lot of power and a premium cabin with plentiful features.
For those of you who are interested to know what the electric G-Wagen is all about, here is an overview of the SUV ahead of its launch tomorrow!
The EQG 580 stays true to the roots of the G-Wagen, as it boasts the signature boxy body style. You get the iconic round headlights and the squared-off grille flanked by surrounding LED strips.
It gets five twin-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black and air curtains to further aid aerodynamics. You get plenty of cladding, conventionally styled door handles and a sidestep for easier ingress and egress. The rear looks very similar to the OG G-Wagen. You get the flat tailgate which compliments the butch looks of the SUV.
The interior of the EQG 580 features a tech-laden and premium cabin with all the top-notch features that you would need. It has a rugged vibe to it while having that premium and high-quality feel. It gets dual-displays along with plenty of physical buttons as well. The cabin is finished in open-pore walnut wood with plenty of usage of Nappa leather at multiple places.
The top features include dual 12.3-inch displays (for the driver’s display and the infotainment system) with EV-specific graphics, a premium Burmester sound system, a 360-degree camera, ADAS features, multiple airbags, multi-colour ambient lighting and a wireless phone charger.
The EQG features a 116 kWh battery pack which is paired to a quad-electric motor setup. All motors combined make 587 PS and 1,164 Nm. With the quad motors sending power to the respective wheels, the SUV is capable of making a 360-degree spin. It sprints from nought to 100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds. The boxy SUV offers a WLTP-claimed range of 473 km and has an electronically limited top speed of 180 kmph.
