The all-electric BMW i4 sedan has been launched in India from Rs 69.9 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the all-electric sedan are underway online and you can bring one home from July onwards. The i4 electric sedan was globally unveiled in March 2021 and will be brought to India as a completely built unit.
Today, BMW India has confirmed that the electric sedan will be brought to India in its eDrive40 guise. A single electric motor powering the rear wheels puts out 340PS, helping it do 0-100kmph in just 5.7 seconds. A 80.3kWh battery pack helps it deliver an impressive WLTP-claimed range of 590km, which BMW claims is one of the highest for an EV in India. Internationally, there is a more powerful M50 trim on sale.
Coming to the charging options, you can top up your i4’s battery via three options:
Charger Type |
Speed |
205kW DC Fast Charger |
10-80 percent in 31 minutes / 164km range in 10 minutes |
50kW DC Fast Charger |
10-80 percent in 1 hour 23 minutes / 100km range in 18 minutes |
11kW AC Home Charger |
0-100 percent in about eight and a half hours |
The initial lot of customers will be given the home charging option at no extra cost. Plus, BMW has installed fast chargers at its dealerships in 34 cities.
Moving on, the next point of focus is handling. BMW has managed to achieve a 50:50 weight distribution balance, allowing it for better handling. Plus, the low placement of the battery gives it a lower centre of gravity and cornering should be fun. The rear wheels sit on air suspension and should help it deliver good ride quality. But we’ll put it through a litmus test and bring our verdict in our detailed first drive review soon.

When it comes to features, the i4 will get a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a 464W 17-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless phone charger, wireless smartphone connectivity, powered front seats, and ambient lighting. It also gets safety bits like multiple airbags, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX child seat mounts. No Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) on offer, though.
