- Mercedes-EQ EQB to be launched in India later this year.
- It’s a seven-seater EV with the snob value of a three-pointed star.
- Comes in three variants internationally with a range of up to 596km.
- Prices are expected to start at around Rs 60 lakh if locally assembled.
The all-electric Mercedes-EQ EQB has been spotted on our roads for the first time. Slated for launch later this year, the EQB is the second all-electric SUV from the German marque after the EQC. The upcoming SUV is one of a kind as it offers the practicality of three-row seating with the snob value of a three-pointed star.
That said, it isn’t one of the biggest seven-seater SUVs you would find in the market. It’s a smidgen larger than the GLA it’s based on and its overall upright silhouette and boxy shape gives it a nice SUV-like vibe. It also gets a closed off grille with a DRL strip connecting the headlamps, and it has connected tail lamps too, two elements found in all Merc EVs.
The EQB’s dashboard, save for some minor differences like EV-specific displays, is a photocopy of the GLA and A-Class. Not a bad thing in our opinion as the cabin still looks upmarket, especially with the streaks of ambient lighting that look wicked at night. The highlight obviously is the third row of seats, which Mercedes says is perfect for short adults or your furry friend.

In terms of features, you get powered front seats, dual zone climate control, a Burmester sound system, dual MBUX screens, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and wireless phone charging. Safety should be taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts and probably ADAS as well.
Internationally, the EQB comes in three variants: 250, 300, and 350. The first one is front-wheel drive, while the other two get dual motors and thus, all-wheel drive. But, the variant regardless, a 66.5kWh battery pack is offered as standard. Take a look at the detailed specifications:

If Mercedes decides to do another EQS by assembling the EQB in India, you can expect it to be temptingly priced around the Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) mark. This puts it in contention with other luxury EVs like the Volvo XC40 Recharge and the BMW i4.
