Given that Tesla coming to India might still be a while away, it seems like Fisker might be your best bet for getting your hands on an American-made EV. Fisker has announced a limited edition Extreme Vigyan Edition of its Ocean electric SUV made specially for India. 100 units of the SUV are inbound and deliveries will commence in the fourth quarter of 2023.
The Hindi word ‘Vigyan’ translates to science in English, and Fisker has cleverly used the term in the moniker for its India-bound SUV as it takes after the brand’s India subsidiary - Fisker Vigyan.

Fisker targets to complete the homologation process for India by September and says that pricing will align with European prices. In Germany, it is priced at 69,950 EUR, which converts to Rs 64.57 lakh. But mind you, these prices don’t include any of the import taxes and logistical charges that will eventually get added to its final pricing. And considering the fact that the carmaker is believed to begin with imports initially, you can expect some hefty taxes as is the case with fully imported EVs.
Although, in an earlier conversation with Fisker’s Founder and CEO, we had been told that the carmaker might explore the possibilities for local manufacturing - CKD or full manufacturing - later down the road. So basically, Fisker plans to test the waters in our market with these 100 units. More details from that conversation here.
As for the powertrain specifications, the Ocean EV packs a 113kWh battery pack paired to a 475PS/696Nm dual electric motor setup (572PS/737Nm in boost mode). As per WLTP cycle, it offers a claimed range of up to 707km. And in terms of performance, naught to 100kmph comes up in 4 seconds flat and keep your foot pinned and it’ll max out at 205kmph.
Given that the Ocean Extreme is the top-end variant of the Ocean lineup, it packs quite a few creature comforts to show for it. The list includes 360-degree camera, revolving 17.1-inch touchscreen system, front and rear heated seats, auto AC, and a full suite of ADAS features including auto emergency braking as well.

All said and done, expect the Fisker Ocean Extreme Vigyan Edition to cost north of the Rs 1 crore mark. At this price range, it’ll rival the likes of the already-established luxury brands in India like BMW and Audi, and their respective iX and Q8 e-tron electric SUV offerings.
